Setup
Pairing MyHRM with your head unit
MyHRM pairs like a Bluetooth chest strap. Garmin needs a couple of extra steps the first time — here's why, and exactly what to do.
Pair MyHRM with a Garmin Edge
Garmin discovery works when the iPhone is treated only as a Bluetooth heart-rate sensor during pairing — not as a phone.
- 1
Remove the iPhone as a paired phone on the Edge
On the Garmin Edge, disconnect or remove your iPhone from the phone connection list.
- 2
Disable phone pairing on the Edge while adding the sensor
Keep the Edge’s phone Bluetooth off so it does not resolve the iPhone as a phone record.
- 3
Fully quit Garmin Connect on the iPhone
Swipe Garmin Connect away in the app switcher so it is not holding the Bluetooth link.
- 4
Open MyHRM and keep it foregrounded
Launch MyHRM on the iPhone and leave it on screen.
- 5
Tap Start Broadcasting
MyHRM begins advertising as a Bluetooth heart-rate sensor named “MyHRM”.
- 6
On the Edge: Sensors → Add Sensor → Heart Rate
Let the Edge scan for heart-rate sensors.
- 7
Select “MyHRM”
The Edge pairs it like any Bluetooth chest strap. Your Watch can stay paired to the iPhone.
If MyHRM was paired but won’t reconnect
- 1
Confirm the Edge’s iPhone phone connection is disabled
A phone connection can own the iPhone Bluetooth link and block the sensor record.
- 2
Confirm Garmin Connect is fully quit on the iPhone
Close it from the app switcher.
- 3
Open MyHRM and keep it foregrounded
Bring the app to the front before retrying.
- 4
Tap Refresh Sensor
This rebuilds the MyHRM Bluetooth advertisement and GATT service.
- 5
Reconnect “MyHRM” from the Garmin sensor list
Re-select it under Sensors → Heart Rate.
Good to know
- An iPhone cannot expose a second, independent Bluetooth identity. If a head unit also has that iPhone saved as a phone, it may reconnect to the phone record instead of the “MyHRM” sensor record — hence the “disable phone pairing” steps above.
- Refresh Sensor rebuilds the advertisement and service, but it cannot override a head-unit phone connection that already owns the iPhone Bluetooth link.
- Bluetooth heart-rate sensors normally connect to one head unit at a time. Disconnect “MyHRM” from Garmin, a scanner app, or another device before pairing it somewhere else.
- MyHRM does not broadcast ANT+. Devices that only accept ANT+ heart-rate sensors will not see it.
Other head units and apps
For Wahoo, indoor trainers, Zwift, and gym equipment, start broadcasting in MyHRM first, then add a Bluetooth heart-rate sensor from that device's sensor menu and choose “MyHRM”. If it was connected somewhere else, disconnect it there first.
